Yarn Base Description

Hand-dyed on our BFL DK yarn base:

NON-SUPERWASH

100% Blue Faced Leicester wool (26 mic)

225m per 100g skein

DK weight, 3-ply

Milled in Canada

Beautifully balanced yarn that sits in the sweet spot between softness and strength. Blue Faced Leicester wool has a smooth, almost silky hand with a gentle sheen that gives finished pieces a luxe look. BFL takes dye beautifully, resulting in rich, luminous colourways that glow without losing depth. This 3-ply DK weight offers the same characteristics as its fingering counterpart, but with a touch more structure and strength, and in a versatile, everyday weight.

Thanks to BFL’s long staple length (the length of the individual hairs), this yarn is naturally durable and resistant to pilling, while still comfortable against the skin. Offering both excellent drape and crisp stitch definition, it’s perfect for everything from socks to sweaters.

Care

We recommend gentle hand-washing with a mild wool wash (Eucalan is our favourite!) and laying flat to dry. Avoid excessive agitation and heat (unless you're felting intentionally!). Thoughtful care and proper storage will help preserve the beauty and longevity of your yarn and finished pieces.

Hand-Dyed Yarn Tips

To keep your yarn looking its best, store it out of direct sunlight as prolonged exposure can cause sun bleaching and fade the colours.

While all yarn is washed in our studio after dyeing, some colour bleeding may still occur. Swatching and blocking with a gentle wool wash is recommended, especially for colourwork projects. If needed, pre-washing yarn or blocking finished garments in cold water with a splash of vinegar can help reduce any colour bleeding.

Hand-dyed yarns vary naturally from skein to skein. To create a more even fabric and avoid pooling, we recommend alternating skeins throughout your project.
